Located in a cul-de-sac, the house backs onto the Moonee Ponds creek bike path and is just a few minutes from Melbourne International Airport (not under flight path so it's very quiet). It's a perfect base for avid cyclists, cycle tourers and frequent travelers. Local shopping village is a short 5 minute stroll with easy access to public transport. Surrounded by lots of trees, open spaces and a nearby State Park, this a great place for meditation, contemplation and outdoor activities. Furnished with quality homewares, this is a lifestyle choice. Best suited to international professionals wanting respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst still remaining within its reach. From just $495 per week, this place has it all - including sheets and towels - just bring your toothbrush! (and a change of clothes). More information: The house is located in Westmeadows, which was once an overnight stop en-route to Sydney around a hundred years ago. There's an old tavern (which still serves ice-cold beer), blue stone bridge over the creek and an historic 2-cell lock-up gaol as well as a few old churches and cottages scattered about what was once pastureland. When we first moved to Melbourne we were torn between living in the country or an inner city suburb... we stumbled on Westmeadows quite by accident and it's a real little treasure that satisfies both urges. We've had lots of international tenants who have expressed how much they loved living in this home. They've either cycled or used the public transport system to get around Melbourne as well taking many joy flights around Australia (they've seen more of this country than we have), which they attributed to being in close proximity to the airport. They also frequented the nearby State Park and saw lots of Kangaroos in their natural habitat. The property is less than 2km from the Mickleham Rd exit on the Tullamarine Freeway - which is linked to both the Western Ring Road and CityLink (Melbourne's main arterial) making it easy to get around by car. It takes approximately 20minutes drive time to the city (depending on traffic) and we often get to places much quicker than our inner city counterparts as we bypass traffic congestion by using these major bypasses. Being so close to these major transport routes makes weekend escapes to to the snow country and regional Victorian hotspots much more accessible - ie. Mt. Macedon and Woodend are only 45-mintues away! As for public transport, there's a bus stop a few minutes walk away. It's on Bus Route 477 that goes from Moonee Ponds bus/tram terminal via Westmeadows to Broadmeadows train station. There are many routes to the city depending where you want to get off and what mode of transport you prefer. Here are a few route options: - Bus to Essendon Station (approx 30min) - Connect Train to City (approx 15min) - Bus to Broadmeadows Station (approx 15min) - Connect Train to City (approx 30min) - Bus to Westfield Shopping Centre (approx 15min) - Tram to City (approx 1hr). This is the longest route however I personally love trams. I read, do puzzles and listen to music... it's my personal relaxation time so I indulge without any guilt. You can also connect with the tram from the Moonee Ponds Bus/Tram terminal which will probably reduce the overall travel time. There's also a bus route to Sunbury via Melbourne Airport, which can be handy. If you like to cycle, the property backs onto the Moonee Ponds Creek track which takes you right into the city and links with the Docklands track. It's a gorgeous ride meandering alongside the creek and takes about an hour to cycle to the city (depending on fitness). This is certainly a lifestyle choice. If you like the idea in living somewhere that's like a retreat in a quaint neighbourhood with lots of trees, open space and a little shopping village, tavern and transportation within walking distance, then this is it. It's by no means fast-paced, it's very chilled out and blissful.
